java

this is an interesting post about the current state of java.

anyways, there are always alternative ideas and counter arguments, but we as developers/users of the language will have to deal the problem of now, and trying to satisfy the insatiable sales pitch of software vendors, open source evangelists…

long live common sense and my sanity.

cross trainers

yes, it’s official, after much lamenting over our body mass indices and lack of time, Phyllis and I have decided to purchase a cross trainer. The ultimate answer to the time poor to achieve the illusion of getting fit if not actually being fit.

As we opened the card board packaging, I secretly hoped that this is not to be the last contact I would have with this contraption. After about an hour of assembly, it now sits snugly at the corner of our lounge.

As I stood and observed its machanical construct, I wondered if my parents in their 20′s would have worried about getting over-weight, or the health benefits of a great cardio-vascular workout. Perhaps back then they had more things to worry about then. And I didn’t remember them ever being fat… Mind you, they also seemed to have a lot more pressing things to worry then. Like to get more fresh eggs and vegetables as they were rare.

In this age of abundance and seemingly endless supply of food and nutritions, we were losing the very thing food were suppose to provide, a good health.

I had been on the cross trainers now for 15 minutes every day. I wonder how much longer it would take for my body to realise that I did want to lose that fat, or would the lure of the sofa take over. The battle within continues :-)
